Randy Helser Obituary

Randy E. Helser, 80, of New Lexington, Ohio, went to meet Jesus on Monday, January 19, 2026. Randy was born October 31, 1945, to the late Jesse Jr. and Kitty (Carolina Mae Bourgeois) Helser, the first of five sons. In early childhood Randy would suffer a Mastoid infection that would leave him with a speech and learning deficit. His parents were told he would not live to see 9 years old. I reckon he showed them! Randy would go on to live a full life that would in turn touch many other lives. Although he was quite ornery, he didn’t have an ounce of malice or deceit in him. Randy would work for a few years in Newark at the Minute Man Car Wash and E.T. Rugg Manufacturing. He would later relocate to New Lexington where he would work at ITT Higby until retirement. Randy would often be seen riding his scooter around the area, attending various sporting events, and participating with the Christian Motorcycle Association and the Classic Riders MC. He was an avid supporter of the girls’ softball teams from both New Lexington and Sheridan. Randy is preceded in death in addition to his parents, by his wife Beatrice, and two nephews, Dan Mattis and Shane Helser. He is survived by four brothers and their wives, Andy and Lynn, George and Debbie, David and Peggy, and John and Pat; seven nephews, Chris, Chad, Kent, Cayle, Nate, Seth and Jason; two nieces, Jennifer Mattis and Jessica (Jason) Matthews; and many great nieces and nephews. A special thanks goes out to the crew at Treadway Honda Suzuki Polaris for helping Randy to experience the freedom of the open road. Without their love and support, Randy might have never enjoyed all those years on this scooter. A special thanks to Dr. Bradley Wilson and his staff, the folks at Majestic Care and FairHope Hospice for taking such good care of Randy. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Saturday, January 24, 2026, at the Somerset Community Church, 139 E. Main St., Somerset, Ohio where services will be held at 12:00 p.m. with Pastor David Helser officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery, Glenford, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, please support one of Randy’s favorite causes, The Perry County Cancer Alliance, The Perry County Veterans, or the Perry County Children’s Services. Bope-Thomas Funeral Home in Somerset is entrusted with the arrangements.
